I wear brown slacks quite often (2-3 times a week), and always wear brown shoes with them. I would like to wear black shoes with the slacks, but something tells me it just kind of clashes or maybe it's inappropriate.

Can you wear brown slacks with black shoes? Does anyone here do that?

I wear brown and taupe slacks with sport jackets to the office about one day a week. I wear dark brown or cordovan shoes, never black.

with light coloured brown pants, which are really more sands and taupes then, i often wear black shoes - the contrast is similar to wearing black shoes with white pants

I don't know what the "rule" is, but it will probably look a little... UPS? Or bierhall putsch... not the best. Personally I like the look of relatively lighter brown shoes with brown pants.

I probably wouldn't - I have to agree with J - it might look a little "military" (think - tan khaki's with spit shined black shoes.)

Funny how it works the other way around, but not this way.

That's what I thought. I posted because I wondered if I was being silly, kind of like how I previously thought DB suits should only be worn by larger men because they make skinny guys look fat (thanks to my father for that misunderstanding). This forum has been great for getting second opinions on stuff. So I guess my instinctive tastes have not always been "off" on everything at least.

With brown suits, definitely yes, but with slacks/sportjacket I'd say no.

Very military, but I don't think it looks good. In the US Navy, the aviation ratings wear *brown* shoes with khakis. The other ratings consider this bizarre and the term "brownshoe" is meant in a condescending way. I guess they don't realize those shiny black shoes look like a sore thumb.

I like chocolate brown pants with black shoes. The color combination looks very rich.

I guess I'm in the minority here -- I think brown slacks with black shoes is fine. in fact, I think black with brown in general is fine.

Definitely. But as for khaki/taupe, eh.

It's fine with moka, dark brown, chocolate. In fact, light brown shoes with these don't look good. So, it really depends on the "brown"
