Looking to spend a MAX of $400. I wear a 9.5D in Alden. I like the look of the Perf Tip Captoe Alden Oxfords like the below. These will probably be my only pair of Black shoes.

I recently found some Allen Edmonds Byron's on Ebay for less then $150.00. They look just like those Alden's. Beautiful shoes.

Ebay is definitely worth checking before paying full price.

The A-E Fifth Avenue (almost identical to the Byron but on the #5 last) has recently been re-introduced with a knockdown full retail of $279.

In addition to Alden and AE you might consider some of the English options, (e.g., Loake, Cheaney). These don't get a lot of love on the Forum but most everyone that owns them, including myself, would agree that the quality of high-end lines is on par with AE and very close to Alden. Just for comparison see the Cheaney "Kent" aside the AE "Hale", AE Park Avenue, Alden 901 and Loake "Aldwych". Higher end Cheaney and Loake, (i.e., 1880 Line) can be acquired at the $150 -$200 range, several in sleeker, more stylish last than offered by Alden and AE.
