Pity that the OP is set against anything online. Ian at www.shopthefinest.com currently has Fray (black herringbone button down) on sale at a very decent price point for gents with neck size either 15 or 15.5.

why is this board against black shirts/black outfits in general? I quite like the idea of wearing an all black silk outfit, jacket shirt trousers. Or even a black sport jacket, black shirt and black raw denim jeans w/ black laceups...very clean silhouette.

Black shirts themselves are not bad, per se, but generally speaking I think all-black looks atrocious. It's no problem when it's on a runway because the textures, materials and dyes are all consistent and are meant to match each other. However shown on individuals, no two blacks are exactly alike in hue and shade, and there's a lot of optical tension when wearing too much black. The varying degrees of purity in the color cause it to look very unrefined.

Generally speaking I don't think black really belongs in most fits outside of leather (shoes included). A monochromatic look of varying shades of grey looks much more mature than an all-black fit. That said, a dark, pure-black suit by Jil Sander or the likes can look really sharp. But not over a black shirt.

Good explanation. Also, as you might be implying, after a while black clothing tends to fade. Then it usually looks terrible.

Couldn't disagree more. All black is fashionable (I notice the media are calling black the new black this season....again!), aesthetically pleasing, minimalist and clean. Works well (avoid anything faded though)...if you have the confidence and build for it. Fri-Sun all black is my casual uniform (even in summer with my collection of black shorts and sneakers). And I've always been told how stupendously well I dress. Always.
