is there a fashion rule against black shirts? how rediculous! out of all of the fashion rules that are subject to being broken (all of them) that by far is the easiest and most tempting to break.

Some rules are made to be broken. Then again, so are some fingers.

Unless you work at or own an ultra hip multi media or tech company or are in high fashion, this is a bad shirt for the office. Itll look sketchy. I think for casual in a city when youre going to hotter bars/lounges/restaurants/parties they can work well.

Crepe de chine silk will keep its black color longer than cotton but this is not as much of an issue now that the black on black look is retired for now and people generally are wearing black shirts under other color suits and jackets.

The problem with a black shirt under a black jacket is that unless the shirt is a midnight black, the resulting contrast looks cheap and plastic.

Well anyway, at your pricepoint, what about mtm/bespoke?

Well I dunt know any decent MTM in Toronto . Also in most cases u must order half a dozen or smth and the last thing I need is half a dozen shirts. However, if u know any in Toronto I will be more than happy to visit . Due to my work I won;t be able to travel anywhere in next two month.
Also I am not planing to wear a black shirt at work ..

I wear a black tennis shirt sometimes. I think a black linen shirt could be good casually, with khakis or some other light-colored pants, but haven't tried it. For the amateur casual dresser this might go wrong very wrong, but I think someone with an advanced degree in casual Ã

lan (el guapo, etc.) wouldn't have difficulty making it look good.

But it's hard to believe a black "˜dress shirt' could ever be a good choice. I may not be as opposed to it in theory as some, but in practice is there ever a time a shirt that's blue, white, or one of the many combinations thereof doesn't look better than anything else you could wear? If so, only rarely and it's probably not black.

Nice shirts? Not really. I haven't worn anything Polo since , I don't know, 1986 or so. Polo is so gauche.

I can't think of a single situation where I could imagine myself wearing a black shirt. I mean, I can think of some where it would be appropriate, but not my style I guess. Not judging though. Please enjoy your black.

Perhaps if I were an early 20th century fascist I'd think differently, but I consider black shirts to be really tacky.

I would just beg anyone considering one to not wear one with a suit and tie. Please.

^^ agreed.

I like them for casual wear, but you have to be a very special type to pull it off with a suit.

Harry Rosen offers MTM shirts at two levels, the lower being in the 200 range and the higher being in the 350+ range.

Why a black shirt, just wondering.

You do realize the poster who brought up RL was talking about the Black Label & Purple Label shirts, right? Do you not think those are nice shirts?
