I know the general Styleforum consensus regarding black suits (may they rest in peace), but what about pinstriped black suits? Is the solid black the problem or just the color black in general?

Well, I'm new, but I know a thing or two about traditional clothing.

It's the color black in general, so I advise against pinstripes: leave black to a smoking or a frac. Instead consider a grey suit with pinstripes.

I like having a black suit and wear it for certain downtown events. But I would avoid a black pinstripe. I think it looks far to stark, almost costumy, like a 30's gangster parody. A gray or navy pinstripe can't be beat. I have a navy pinstripe that is very subtle and it is my most popular suit for semi formal and casual events.

Thanks Guys. The gangster look thing was a concern.

I think it depends. I have a black pinstripe that I like to wear if I'm going to be giving a presentation in a big space, but it "pops" too much for daily wear. It also looks good on me which is half the battle in choosing any clothes color...

I rock a black with white chalkstripe RLPL. In other words, they're great if you can rock it hard. Careful for business.

I like black pinstrip, shows power and confidence, very eye catching. Plain black suit reminds of limo driver or private security person.

Never. Black pinstripes are for women's pant suits.
