Black Jacket and White Pants

I have prom coming up in a couple weeks and I was planing to wear a black single button Dolce and Gabbana jacket and white Ralph Laren trousers with black cap toe shoes. What colour shirt and tie should I wear? I was thinking about a white shirt with a plaid blue tie is that fine or should I go for something else.

If I was in your position, I would (and did) opt for the Tuxedo. For the prom, I think black tie is the best way to dress.

As for the other outfit, stick with the white shirt, and just match your tie with your girl's dress

But go black tie

A dark red tie would probably round out things nicely; I'd be cautious about a blue plaid unless it matched your date's dress. With everything else being black and white, a black long tie trends towards funeral territory.
