Hi,

I'm looking for black captoe oxfords, preferrably on a nice sleekish last. A european look, if possible, for an international style.

The catch - I don't use formal shoes very often, so I'd rather not spend more than 200 euros (that's a bit over $ 250)

Any tips? Goodyear welts, not awful leather, something that can be shined...

Thanks, those are really nice. I invested in a pair of C&J this autumn, perhaps it is time once again.

More suggestions are appreciated!

For that price range I would stick to English shoes, or Alden or Allen Edmonds on deep deep discount. Look into Loake, Barker, Cheaney, Grenson.

They have a rubber sole.

Is that what you want in a formal shoe?

I can go leather or rubber sole for this pair, not a deal breaker for me.

I would strongly recommend the Barker Lincoln. I have a pair in black and I love them. The shoe is from their international handcrafted collection which is very good value at its price point. It is £224.95 at pediwear, which includes VAT, which is roughly 260 Euros and it comes with free shoe trees. Over budget, but not by much.

Here is a picture of it:
