Black cap toe on a square or round last?

What is preferred for a black cap toe like the EG Chelsea? A square last like the 808/888 or a round toe like the 82? Does a square toe look too aggresive for business? Does the round toe look too boring?

I prefer round-toed cap-toes.

I think in general I prefer a square toe for puched cap toe but I am unsure for a regular cap toe.

Round, but lately I only like round toes, so take that for what it's worth. Also, I have come to dislike all chisel toes except Cleverley, which is a bit of mafooish let-them-eat-cake sentiment on my part.

To me, the Chelsea in Black on the 202 last is one of the most classic shoes out there. With that being said, the Chelsea on the 82 is the "new" classic to me and is immensely popular.

I think 808 would look fine as a captoe as it's not an in-your-face kind of square toe. 888 might be too much. Have you looked in the shoe picture thread to see if there are examples?

I thought captoes would look good on round toes only, too, but seeing a classic English square toe (ie. the Cleverley toe) recently with captoes changed my mind, and I just commissioned a black oxford captoe with what G&G calls their classic square toe. Tony Gaziano and I talked about the clash of the slickness of the toe against the austerity of the rest of the shoe for a while, and he offered that he could make the rest of the shoe shape "softer" (his word) so that it wouldn't be as slick or clashing.

if it were RTW i would ether go for a classic round toe or a very soft sq2 toed last.

now if it were gonna be bespoke i would go with a sus sq2 last

As much I love the Chelseas in 202 I recently got from another forum member, I had actually been picturing them on the 82 (come to think of it, I'll take almost anything in the 82!) for a future purchase. Waaaay into the future.

Black cap toe on the 202 is probably the most basic shoe anyone should own.
82 looks sharp and would be my choice and a dress boot with a black cap toe would look great with a chisel toe I think.

This isn't black, but here's a Chelsea on the 888. Not for me.
