I've always believed that there were limited options for mixing black and navy. OK to have black shoes with navy pants, or black overcoat with navy suit... but with everyday clothes you should not mix.

I'm seeing more and more guys at the gym wearing black and navy together, like black shorts and navy shirt, or vice versa. Are they wrong to mix? Or am I wrong to think they're clashing?

I go to the gym to work out. I really don't care what I look like while I'm doing it.

Maybe I'm just a troglodyte.

The gym is one area where my satorial standards go way down. I work hard when I go and sweat a lot. I don't wear neon but could really care less as to what I'm wearing (mix blacks with blues, reds and blacks, etc) as long it doesn't hinder my motion or stick to me when it gets wet (I don't wear cotton in the gym). As for other people, as long as you aren't 180lbs+ and wearing spandex I could really care less what you're wearing. What I care more about is if you're dwadling and socializing more than you're sweating.

So in short, don't worry about it.

I think it's just wrong to worry about being stylish at the gym. Black and navy are fine there. My only caveats are elasticized sweatpants, spandex on men, and stringer tank tops. And of course those hideous zebra style pants that were cool at Gold's during the Reagan administration.

FYI. People don't care what they wear to the gym. It's not a fashion show, you lift weights and sweat. This is ridiculous.

I personally try and avoid wearing black and navy together to the gym... gray is a better option with either of those choices... and I have enough t-shirts and shorts in all those colors, so its never really a problem...

That being said, I really hate guys who look like they've completely coordinated their outfit at the gym - usually just shows that they're more concerned about how they look than the workout they are doing.

On the other hand - a good looking woman on the treadmill or the elliptical with a coordinated outfit is a nice addition to any workout

if i'm wearing black top with dark blue jeans or navy top with black jeans, i break it up with a white or silver belt.

That probably donest work as well for guys.

Grey is tops for gym wear - it shows sweat better than anything else. Sweat tells the others "I'm working harder than you" or, "My sweat glands are out of control, get out of the way before I soak you".

Anyhoo, navy + black in the gym, you shouldn't care about stuff like that.

I wore Navy champion mesh short and a black tank top (no strings, tasteful) just the other day. Black and Navy absolutely go together. Actually a nice combo at night on the town. I prefer grey, navy, and black for gym wear with an occassional red. I like to look put together to a point, as I've dated many girls from the gym, so might as well look your best (to a point of course, all in good taste)

I agree completely that you don't want to look like a total dirtbag at the gym, as the romance potential is definitely there.
