At about 10:41PM on Tuesday, NewConvert posted this: http://www.styleforum.net/t/289112/vass-double-monks-u-last-43-size for $400 or best offer

At 10:48, I PMed offering $375
At 11:06PM he writes back "Sure. I can do that. Send payment to [email protected] tonight."
At 11:06PM I make the paypal payment
At 11:08PM I PM NewConvert to say the payment is made and give my shipping address

The next day I got a notice of a pending refund from PayPal. I immediately ask why I got the notice from PayPal.

He writes back, “Sorry for the inconvenience but somebody sent money before your payment was received. first come basis. Thanks again.”

I wrote, “You PMed me at 11:06 saying go ahead and pay. I paid you at 11:06 and then sent you a PM at 11:08 to tell you I paid. I find if pretty hard to believe that someone paid in that non-existant window of time."

He wrote, “I am sorry for the confusion but the shoes are sold and shipped. I was bombarded by so many inquiries that I must have received multiple payments at the same time while I was just responding on styleforum. I will have to be more careful next time. I have sent your full refund. You may receive two notices of a refund or two amounts of $375. The second one is the one that counts. The first one should be disregarded. It was not processed correctly. Please let me know if you do receive two refund payments. Thanks,
Carlito”

Today I receive a notice from PayPal saying the refund did not go through because of insufficient funds.

If you paid for these shoes, please reply to this thread or PM. I'm wary of being swindled and you should be wary too.

I would be livid, but it sounds like the seller was hedging his bets. I had a Craiglist go horribly wrong, phoned, agreed a price and time for meet up. Drove 80 miles to pick up, item was gone, sold to someone an hour earlier . I was seriously pissed off.

I dont like the "I must have received multiple payments" - he either did receive multiple payments or did not. Sounds like he may be making this up or terribly indecisive, both worrisome qualities. You are Paypal covered if you used your credit card, if a refund is not imminent over next day or two, take it to the next level.

he got his asking price and decided to sell to that guy, its unethical, but if i were you i would've paid full asking price, knowing full well that this was likely to happen it was a great price to start with, not worth the haggle for 25.

lesson learned great deal pay full asking right away and the seller is greedy and unethical.

What a quiet Friday if a drama thread ends in only 3 posts.

Could not agree more. I remember the furor created in one bad seller/buyer thread dedicated to a B&S deal gone sour over the "return issue". That thread was non stop action.

Perhaps he sent the refund thinking that the payment from the first buyer already cleared his bank (and those are his only funds?)? Just a positive thought of what might be the problem. I would be upset as well, but hopefully it's nothing truly sinister.

Check his feedback. He did the same thing to me with a pair of Alden boots - and I didn't receive notice or a refund until 3 days later. Also happened to SFer "Sixers_610."

eBay ID is: stephanie8183.
