So I'm now sort of in between suit sizes for my favorite slimmer fitting suits (I usually go with RLBL) and could conceivably go with a 40 or a 42. In general, is it better to let out the former or take in the latter? The issue is this: I used to be a stock 40, no alterations required, but I've been working out more and as a result a 40 now gapes a little at the chest and the trousers are too tight in the thighs and waist (mostly due to more squatting adding leg/abdominal muscles). On both the 40 and 42 the shoulder pads stick off the ends of my shoulders a bit, though obviously a tiny bit more on the 42. I understand that this is just the look of these suits, but is there really anything to be done about that? Otherwise, I think the trousers from a 42 fit better all around and the jacket just needs to be taken in at the waist, but fits perfectly in the chest. The 40 would need to have the chest let out a bit and have everything above the knee on the trousers let out a bit. So which do I go for? What is "correct" in terms of letting out or taking in?
