So far I own 3 pairs from AE, 2 strands and 1 Park Avenue. Bought them all the same time.
I haven't had any problems with the quality, and they fit me well...however, I don't like the look or styling. The longer I go with them, the less I like the look. They're too round and wide looking, difficult to word it out correctly...there's just something about the whole look that's off.

What other "SF approved" brands do you have, in the same price and quality range, that may offer more options?

The next natural [forumite] step is to move to C&J although they are a bit pricier (~$500-$750). You may also wish to look into Carmina (~$500, I dumped nearly all of my C&J shoes in favor of Carmina). Then you will be open to moving up a tier to which you will either go EG (~$1K), Lobb (~$1K-$1,600) or both and never look back.

Meermin, especially their Linea Maestro line, which will get you higher quality for the same-ish price. You have to do a bit more work and waiting though.

If you want the same price range, I agree Meermin is the way to go. Roughly same quality, but better lasts.
