Better Jantzen - Acorn Fabric + Jantzen Construction For Cheap MTM?

What would people think about getting Acorn Fabric shipped to HK for Jantzen to use?

Acorn's fabric is cut by the meter, comes in a wide variety and has a fantastic hand. I'll be getting 15 shirts or so made - in a variety of twills, poplins, oxfords and linens. I'm going to do this myself at the end of the year, when I go to HK.

Jantzen shirts have terrible fabric, but acceptable construction. This would give us a quality cloth, MTM shirt with acceptable construction at a very reasonable price.

Has this idea been discussed before? Could we expand on it?

What do people think?

Thanks!

If Jantzen would do mail-order CMT it sounds like a great idea.

Will they?

Are the shipping charges from Acorn reasonable? Specifically, to Australia, that is.

WRT the original question, I asked 2 years ago. They seem reluctant and a few of their in-house fabrics caught my interest so I did not pursue the option. It could have something to do with their patterns and complications of not having enough fabric provided by the clients since they try to pattern match. I don't know what their current stance is. I also know several other shirt makers who are quite unwilling to accept CMT.

I can also imagine the anguish of losing your fabrics when Ricky totally forgets about your order or if the cloth doesn't arrive or worst of all, wrongly cut and they have no cloth to substitute.

Hmmm.

I can remember him saying that is would be ok.

I'm going to do it in person, taking the fabric with me to and give to him in person, doing a trial shirt and then adjusting, get the finished product shipped back to Australia.

I want a couple OCBDs but Jantzen doesn't seem to stock any decent oxfords--so this sounds like a great idea. Please let us know how it works out.

Razele: did you ever get around to doing this? Keen to hear about your experience.

Sorry to resurrect a rather old thread. But I will be in HK over the new year, and would love to re-visit Jantzen without having to search through 20 books of generally disappointing fabric.

Any luck with this Razele?

I think the problem with Jantzen is that they are inconsistent with the fit of the shirts. I don't think I've ever read that construction was poor.

doesn't make sense. why not just source your own fabric and have peter lee make the shirts? his shirts are a step above jantzen's

why not use Acorn with Peter Lee, I'm sure he's much much more reliable
