Better for loafers to fit too tight in the toes or for the heel to slip too much?

If the choice is between two half sizes. Perhaps between 9 and 9.5 or 10.5 and 11.

If the smaller size is a bit too tight in the toes, and the larger size has too much room in the back and the heel slips too much, which shoe do you think would be a better purchase?

Which issue will decrease more significantly after a few wearings? The toes being too tight or the heel slipping too much?

PS. though I'm sure some moron will be tempted to respond with something like "don't buy loafers" or "buy lace-ups only" or "all loafers suck", that's not what I asked.

No no, just buy a different model that actually fits

If you really want these, buy the small size and see if a few wearings will stretch the problem areas enough to make them fit well. /U.

The slipping in the heel will decrease as the shoes wear in, and the sole starts bending a bit more.

Of course, higher priced handmade shoes from certain countries don't really have this sort of problem.

If it's too tight in the toes, then stay away - that problem will never go away, IMO.

If it has too much room in the heel, then just get tongue pads and it'll work OK....that's what I did.

Neither is right. Change to another make/style that fits properly.

If they're only borderline tight you get a cobbler to stretch them for you, but it might be better to search for a different brand/last and find one that fits pretty well out of the box.
