I do freelance design on the side and usually just use GoDaddy for all my clients to keep things simple. Sure, there are plenty of cheaper hosts, but not by a considerable amount. Plus, the upside of going with a huge, publicly traded and trusted corporation is that you know they've got the money to stay on top of things, the means to quickly address any problems that may ever arise, and you don't have to worry about them going under any time soon much unlike many other fly-by-night hosts out there.

If your website is music related at all, you could use Unshadowed.net. They provide free hosting to bands, labels, music e-zines, etc. However, they're currently experiencing some down time right now due to a hacker attack. A few of my sites were affected. As I mentioned before, that's one of the advantages of going with a large cooperation such as GoDaddy. They'd've had this issue resolved within a matter of minutes, if not prevented entirely.

Christ, I sound like I'm giving a testimonial on a commercial.

With that said, I'll leave you with this parting advice: GoDaddy or GO HOME!

Now excuse me as I go murder myself.

Best for what? Different scenarios require different solutions.

Looking for managed hosting? Some are

Rackspace
The Planet
ServerBeach
Mosso (segment of RS)
Datapipe

Looking for shared? There are too many to mention that are fairly similar. I've used or been involved with shared hosting on Lunarpages, GoDaddy, Easy CGI, 1&1, BlueHost, and others. Most are pretty similar in their specs.
