I like how this guy tied his knot:

What is this knot called and would it work for most ties/occasions? What is your favorite tie knot and why?

The only thing worse than a spammer is an uncreative, dim-witted spammer.

Doesn't seem to be spam post to me. Links to photobucket with guy in what appears to be a grey, herringbone wool tie done in 4-in-hand knot.

Spammers love to do the whole "click my link" thing. Just use the tag around your picture links to have it directly shown next time.

Edit: Hmmm Archivist might be right there.

I think it may be a Prince Albert knot (double 4 in hand).

Try a Pratt. That knot looks a little more symmetrical than a Prince Albert/ 4 in hand would be.

+1 for the pratt, my fav.

-don't think the knot in the pic is one though.

My faves are half-windsor for symmetrical looks, and 4-in-hand for assymetrical.

+1. I find that the more triangular knot of the pratt also makes it more suitable for cutaway collars (my preferred) for most ties.

Just tried. feels little strange.
What seem weird to me, is that after you are done wearing tie, and take the thin part out, the knot doesn't open just by pulling tie apart. Instead it tights up the knot.

i dont remeber why, but always thought that tie know should open up easily.

+1 for the Pratt/Shelby knot. It's very simple to tie, but makes a beautiful, symmetrical knot that looks great with a spread collar.

Oriental knot is not for me either, as I am on the short side of average. The tie would hang far too low

Anyway, you really shouldn't just pull the short end out to untie your tie. What is recommended is to loosen the tie and unravel it the way you tie your tie in reverse.

I know that, and agree. But I tend my ties know pretty tight. And sometimes seems like trying to untie it damages it even more...
