Best way to save some $ on RL Darltons or Alden Cigar LWB?

I have wasted way too many hours over the last couple months looking on SF and Ebay for a deal on RL Darlton brogues or Alden Cigar LWB in an 8.5 or 9D. I'm talking about dozens and dozens of hours. This may be a ridiculous question, but any suggestions on how I can find a pair w/o having to pay (gulp) full retail?

Thanks,
BCD

wow, so dozens and dozens of hours of your time is worth less than say, the $200 you would save on these shoes? you sound super important to the continued rotation of planet earth.

How did you waste the hours?
Did you not pull the trigger?
Did you underbid?

The hours were not wasted.
You now know the market price of those shoes.

Next time you see a pair on Ebay, bid 25% over that, and lock it in.
Maybe you get a deal, maybe you don't.
Either way, you pay fair market price.
But at least you can move on with your life.

No need to waste another minute on this task.

Problem is that - despite my neurotic searching - I haven't found them for sale in my size OR they sold almost immediately after being listed (and before I had an opportunity to bid).

Like the banging the RL employee idea, but am afraid that the only willing candidates would be men and I'm not one of the gheys. As to making them myself, my dexterity skeelz would result in me cutting off an appendage.

RL had 25% off recently. Getting a big discount on Alden shell is tough. I think your best bet would be to purchase $600 worth of RL gift certificates and then snap them up on the next big RL sale. That should bring them in under $500.

Shoemart irregulars are the best source for discounted Aldens.

Ugh. Searched and found online coupons for 25% off - sale expired 4/14/11.
