What's the best way to take a tie off? Do you hold the knot in place and pull the skinny end out of the knot, or do you try to undo the knot starting from the fat end?

Do you loosen it by pulling the skinny end out of the knot?

I'm surprised by this advice from our resident tie expert. I just untie it while still on my neck.

I have found that if you treat a tie with Scotchgard spray not only does it help the material resist stains it also unties more smoothly resulting in less wrinkles.

The same. All I meant was to preclude the yank through method. I actually take it off in the manner I mentioned because you get to see what you are doing when it on your hand. Either way though.

Loosen it and hang it in your closet. Don't untie it or else you will have to get your father to re-tie it for you before turnabout or prom.

+1. Alternatively, if you don't have a starlet on hand, I find reversing the knot whilst it is still around my neck tends to keep my ties in the best condition.

If I try to loosen it too much, I find that it pulls the stitches (which don't seem to be much stronger than a tacking stitch).

Very interesting on the Scotchgard, I'll have to give that a try!

step one: remove the head.
i prefer the American style, with a chainsaw, but some prefer the french or british methods.

step two: slip tie off.

step three: ??????

step four: profit!

Haha, what was step three again?
"Oh, Step 4 -- profit."
No, they want to know what Step 3 is...
