Best way to care for new C&J Coniston boots?

I just bought a pair of pair of Coniston boots, I love them so far... I plan on wearing them this spring (and probably summer) whenever it is a bit wet outside, and on some of the cooler spring and fall nights. I'm just curious as to the best way to care for the shoes; I haven't seen anything on this in prior threads, and it seems like a bunch of people here own them.

They shoes have this shine that I would like to preserve. I would also like to waterproof the shoes as much as possible. However, the conditioning and waterproofing stuff (Montana Pitch) I use on more heavy work boots (like Red Wings or Wolverines) would darken the tan, which would not be good.

Do I just hit these up with brown shoe polish like I would a other dress shoe? Is there a boot cream that would be more appropriate? I already wore these in the rain once, I want to properly treat them before doing so again...

I think I used neutral polish on mine.

I never got around to waterproofing them with SnoSeal like I discussed in earlier threads but I also haven't had the reason to this winter.
