best value sports car under 100k?

    What are your thoughts? Your choices should be based not just on performance, but looks, cost, maintenance costs, etc. You can pick old ferraris, new porsches, or anything else that suits your fancy.

    EDIT: that is actually desirable and not a fugly corvette :p

    The Corvette Z06 is probably the best bang for your buck.

    I like the Lotus Elise and the Lotus Exeige as well. More exotic-looking.

    I like the Porsche Cayman.

    Why?
    I typically don't like how porsches look, yet this car looks good and has even more potential with the Techart. The hardtop does wonders for the boxster body which I never really liked.

    It is mid-engine so it has good performance balance and leaves some room for storage.

    The car is not so harsh that you can't drive it every day yet is fast and agile enough to take on the track when needed. The maintenance while more than a typical car is not that of a super car.

    The engine is basically that of a detuned Carrera in a smaller package. That means that you can enjoy as is or there should be plenty of upside room if you want to tinker around.

    Best all around for me at 100k would be the Porsche C4s.

    Porsche 993 Turbo
    Ferrari 456
    Ferrari 355
    Acura NSX
    Aston DB7

    New or pre-owned?

    New I would almost certainly take a fully loaded Cayman S. If not I think the next M3, while pretty fugly IMHO, will be a very sick car to drive.

    Pre-owned? Oh, the list is too long to make.

    If you can fit, the current Lotus Elise is the only current sports car under (or over) $100k that's sold in the USA and worth mentioning. If it's officially out yet, the Tesla Roadster might have a shot at the title, too.

    As for vintage cars, how about a Lotus Elite, Lotus Elan (RWD), Lotus Europa, Austin Healey 100/4, or a Mk. I/Mk. II Miata.

    I know two people that have Lotus Elise's and they are highly impractical. They can't be driven long distances, are very sparse, loud, unforgiving, the build quality is rather low, it is a tight fit for anyone over 6' 2" and they aren't incredibly reliable.

    No. sorry, but it’s not a true sports car. No sedan is a true sports car. The M5 is a sports sedan, granted a very fast one, but it’s not a true sports car. If not I would have also said mentioned the RS4 or the S6 since they both move like the wind, and can carry 4 people and their luggage too!

    And if Audi comes out with an RS6 (conceivably with the same 5.2 liter V10, but with twin-turbos added for good measure and great WHP) it will be even faster and better than the M5.

    I like the M3 under the 100k mark. Also porsche cayman s sounds good. and a used 993 turbo

    As far as we are talking about pre-owned, the NSX (as aforementioned) is one hell of a car. And even its sticker price was really good, for it was simply a Ferrari with Honda reliability. I truly think that the F430 is as reliable as it is thanks mostly to the NSX.

    I'm not too knowledgable about cars, so why would the F430 have anything to do wtih the NSX?

    LOL, my first impulse was to say the Z06.

    The Ariel Atom and Lotus cars are incredibly impractical, and I don't like their looks either. They look more like toys than cars. Probably makes sense, since they are just toys to most owners.

    For a sports car, daily driver, I'd probably go with a modified Cayman.
