5'9", I'm a 28" waist, very thin legs, including at the ankles (small-boned). I'm looking to fill out my wardrobe with a couple of pairs of pants. I can't afford to mess up, but I am willing to spend the money if I get value.
So, I'm looking on ebay and there's not a lot. I know that RLPL is highly regarded here, but since I have to cast a very wide net, I'm wondering if people could tell me other brands I should consider. I'd prefer something with more tapered ankles, I guess kind of like 60s styles.
ALSO, would it be possible for me to get nicer 29-waisted pants and have them tailored? I noticed that even that one size up gives me a lot more options on ebay.
Also, I was thinking I might just get some MTM, but the pair I got with my MTM suit, while passable, seem a bit clunky to me. I understand what to look for and explain with shirts, but I find the proportioning on pants more of a mysterious. I don't mind something a bit high-wasted, but I just don't like my pants legs looking very squared or boxy. Once I got my suit fitted, I told the guy that I wanted the legs to be slimmer, and he told me that while he could adjust the thigh/seat, it was not really feasible to narrow the lower area of the legs. The suit was fine, but if I had a do-over, I'd prefer it narrower.
Since I'm so thin, I'm thinking I need to figure out how to explain this better--like, I can wear a slightly higher crotch than normal, and the legs themselves could be narrower, etc. Can someone tell me what kind of styling I might want to pay attention to and how to explain this? I guess I'm thinking of it the way I had my shirts done: Carl at CEGO was very good at slimming down the cuffs and neck and raising the armpits to really fit me. Should I just be telling the tailor I want the pants to be as closely fitting as possible? Is there a rule about how close a pant cuff should be to one's actual ankle?
Baically, how much can I expect to get for a good value pair of pants, what should I look for, where should I look and how should I explain what I want?
