Best ties for a good knot?

So I've realized that a $10 JCPenny tie from 1989 is making a better knot that a $100 Brioni and Brooks Brothers of mine... and I'm at a complete loss. I tend to prefer the full windsor, but even the four in hands aren't turning out well with these expensive ties. The JCPenny tie holds its shape better (nice triangular windsor), stays up in it's proper position, and drapes cleaner than either of them, wtf?! Is there a brand out there anyone could point me to that makes the best 'knot-tying' ties, cuz brioni and bb sure as hell aren't.

It's a crapshoot. I have several pairs of identical ties (colour being the only difference, the brand and model are the same) that hold completely different knots. Thickness of silk doesn't seem to have anything to do with it, either. Your only hope is to try them on before buying, or ask the seller to demonstrate the knot if buying from B&S.

What makes a "good" knot is highly subjective. I tend not to care very much about the specific shape and care nothing for triangular symmetry.
