Hi everyone,

As the title says I'm interested in opinions on who makes the best suits for sub £250 GBP. I have several Autograph M&S suits from their Timothy Everest range which I find to be quite a good basic work suit for around £200 but I was hoping to get something with a better name than M&S.

I am currently looking at the Charles Tyrwhitt suits for around £200-250 which look like good value for suits which include working cuff buttons.

What does everyone think of these suits?

Any recommended alternatives?

Thanks for your advice

Not sure I can offer much buying advice, but on a recent stroll down Jermyn Street, I was astonished how much was on sale, especially given it's October. I suspect more and more suits will be coming down into your target price zone.

Tom Mahaon speaks highly of M and S so don't simply buy on the grounds of "name". Surely you don't wear it with the labels facing outwards?

Harvie & Hudson - two suits for around £425 to £450. T M Lewin also has offers on suits.

If you are going to stick to M&S (I have one near me) take a look at the Timothy Everest and Mark Powells one button suits (almost Huntsman copies). The Powell has peak lapels and an optional waistcoat. They look as good as anything on the High Street.

If you're anywhere near London - get thee to Suitsupply (apparently they have a shop near Saville Row there).

Why do you care about the name on the suit though?

I realise I probably shouldn't care about the label just don't want to have a suit wardrobe made entirely of M&S suits, would rather have some other brands to mix it up a bit...

I was chatting with the tailor I use for adjustments a few months ago (ex-Savile Row, now works on his own on Bond Street), and he told me the High Street suits he rated the most were M&S "Autograph". For better or for worse, I very rarely wear suits at work so don't need to worry about buying and maintaining a rotation of everyday suits, but I'd be investigating those racks closely if I did have to get suited and booted five days a week.

Austin Reed have suits for £250 but mostly at £350. But if you go on their site, you might find something for £150-200. Not many sizes left though. You might consider Ben Sherman suits, its rarely talked about on here but from the few threads posted, its not too bad.
