If you too are from Florence and you have some nice gem to share i would love to know! i swear i will keep the secret and not buy all the best stuff ahahaha

I only lived there for a few years

Madova is sort of iconic for gloves, on the verge of being touristy due to its location, but they make good stuff
Alternatively, check Luciano Di Rovai Giovanna

Shibumi for silk accessories, although I just checked Google and it says their store is permanently closed
I'd definitely stop by Tie Your Tie in Florence, always interesting stuff

alterations, Sartoria Serroni, a mother-daughter duo, really good at what they do, and all the major boutiques work with them too

Flo and Flo make bespoke shirts, heard that they are good, but I've never used them myself

Sartoria Corcos and Sartoria Speci for full tailoring

I'll add some more when I checked my notebook

So, I’ll be in Milan and Lake Como for the Christmas holiday. It’s a family trip so my time will be somewhat limited. I’m just beginning to take stock of what I need to compliment my wardrobe. Generally, I plan to hunt for items that I won’t typically find at home or other major cities. I.e., staying away from the big name brands. Although, I do want to see Prada! Rubinacci and Al Bazaar for sure. Specific items may include trousers (Rota), gloves, knitwear, and I’d imagine items that catch my eye. My plan so far is to walk the main streets and see what shops catch my eye. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

IF you are looking for silk accessories, I'd recommend buying them around Lake Como as its the heart of Italy's silk industry (historical reasons), depending on where you are traveling from, pursuing "tier 2" brands that aren't thaaat widely stocked overseas, like Rota as you said, Fedeli, Ballantyne might be your best bet - Milan does however have a ton of great boutiques that aren't focused on tailoring, if that's somthing you are interested in

make sure to pick up some pastries or have a cafe at Marchesi on via Montenapoleone after you popped by Rubinacci

Tie your Tie is similar to Shibumi, but I'd say a step above in quality, but maybe that's just my subjective perception, they focus on truly classic designs and patterns and make them mostly into seven-folds, they also offered MTM/bespoke shirts the last time I was there, in addition to a small selection of RTW from brands like Coherence from Japan - might as well stop by on your way to an aperitivo at Roses ? ;)
