hi

i've had a great time learning on SF about shoes and shirts and bags and heading to c&j, sean o'flynn, etc in London (i live here)
however, its time for me to invest in a quality suit, but i cant decide which direction to take

heres what i'm after:
- great fit (of course) - i'm slender at 145 and around 5'7
- solid dark blue or charcoal grey
- i want something thats going to look great, not something that i'll never wear..
- dark navy or charcoal colour
- budget of £1300 or maybe £1500

i've narrowed it down to:
zegna su misura £1300+
canali OTR and have it adjusted £850+
or bespoke: graham browne, candl, chris kerr, etc (off the row as my budget limited)

so, i really need some help here. i'm scared to go bespoke and be displeased with the results. i suppose OTR or MTM has the advantage in that you have a good idea how the suit is going to fit before its finished..

any suggestions or tips would be very helpful!!

Zegna su misura is probably safest. But bespoke is a much more rewarding experience.

Look at Simon Crompton's navy double breasted at Permanent Style (it convinced me to order a suit from GB - should be ready in about 3-4 weeks).

Also consider Sims & Macdonald (about £1000) as well as Connock & Lockie, who are slightly more expensive, and both on the same street.

Bespoke is the only choice.

Do you like any of the current Zegna models?

I saw one recently that I wouldn't hesitate to buy if it weren't $2400.

How do you feel about spending money on non-essential goods during the Covid-19 crisis?

  • I don't want to spend money at a time of economic uncertainty, even if I could afford it.

  • I feel compelled to spend to help small businesses that are struggling.

  • I reduced my budget for non-essential goods and I'm not spending at the moment.

  • Not much has changed for me and I'm still buying stuff I can't afford.
