My husband and I will be on vacation in the Mediterranean in the Spring and it will include part land and part cruise. It will be mostly casual but we like to have a dress up option so we can be ready for anything.

He wants a new suit that will travel well--in terms of fabric and construction, meaning it can be packed in a suitcase repeatedly and not require special handling, only normal care.

Budget is around $3,000 +/-. Any recommendations on fabric, suit construction such as half or full canvas, etc.?

It should be a year-round fabric in terms of weight. Also what about "Traveller" fabrics? I see that Zegna has a traveller suit but it's Z Zegna line (Made in Mexico, whatever that means) which has been widely dissed on SF from what I see. Suit Supply also has a traveller line but we can spend more $ than that.

In my opinion the high twist wool, fresco or traveller are very versatile and don't wrinkle as much, making them ideal for your occasion. Also they are airy making them cool.
Try going to a MTM-store or so in your area and speak with them as you have the money to spend. I'm sure they can recommend you something suitable.
Myself, I have a half canvas traveller wool which is very similar to the ones mentioned above and I can dress it up och down depending on situation and I'm very satisfied with it.
Good luck

I usually use some Woolite at-home dry cleaner for my suits whenever I travel. I put it in a dryer at medium heat, and in half an hour, I have a refreshed suit. This will freshen it, remove wrinkles, and prepare the garment for the important meetings.

Just noticed the date on this post. I'll assume that given everything that happened this year, the trip, as well as the concern are both moot.
