Best Slim Fit Shirts

So I am looking to get shirts that do not billow a ridiculous amount around the waist. I have an athletic build, 38 chest 32 waist, and even the brooks brothers extra slim fit seems way too loose around the waist (I get a huge crease in the back of the shirt). Now I plan to have those shirts tailored, but in the future I would prefer to buy shirts that fit me well right off the rack. Would I have better luck with Hugo Boss, Thomas Pink, or Charles Tyrwhitt?

Well, my advice would be to get the shirts you like as far as fabric, color, and pattern, and just take them to a tailor/alterations person and get them fitted to your liking. I get mine done for $15 and they fit like a glove.

Band of Outsiders and Jil Sander are the only truly slim-fitted shirts that I've found.

My body build is similar to yours and I had the same problem as you did, the extra slim fit BB shirts were still too billowy on me. There's another thread here that talks extensively about slim fit shirts (http://www.styleforum.net/t/35147/the-definitive-guide-to-slim-fit-shirts/0_30) which is worth a look if you have the time.

Personally, I've found that the "fully-fitted shirts" line from TM Lewin are a good off-the-rack slim fit for me, in general the waists are at least an incher smaller than the BB extra slim fit.

If you want to go the OTR + tailored route, you might find yourself with a lot of darts as your alterations since that is usually the cheapest, which I think don't look so good. Given the costs of that route you may be better off getting shirts made to measure. I'd recommend http://www.deoveritas.com/ they've made the best-fitting shirt in my closet and I'm about to order some more, although shipping takes a while (free shipping takes over a month), I think it's worth the money and time.

Epaulet, Thom Browne, Wolf v. Goat Before Dinner, Gant Hugger, plenty of options here. Jil's not cut slim compared to some of these brands.

For me the best fitting are:

BB extra slim fit sportshirts (these fit much slimmer than their dress shirts and are a true slim fit, for some reason)

PRL custom fit (the ones that retail for ~ $150... they have other custom fit that retail for $80-120 that fit very differently but I haven't found a way to tell the difference outside of price)

Hugo slim fit (either red or black)

Pretty much everything else I've tried has been too big for me and I've needed to get darted (including BB ESF dress shirts, CT trim fit, RLBL shirts, Pink slim fit, etc.)

I beg to differ. I have a ~39" chest and 33 inch waist



RLBL and Turnbull & Asser slim fit are pretty good OTR, but I agree with just getting a shirt which fits your neck, shoulders and sleeves and darting it.

Agreed. This is a standard drop for an OTR suit. RL Black Label is 7 and I've seen some Tom Ford that is 8. A friend of mine is 42 chest and 32 waist, he can't find anything OTR.

In terms of true OTR slim fit shirts I've pretty much given up and just get them darted for $15. Seems to be the going rate these days.

you probably have the same issue I have, not so much that you need that much drop, but rather you maybe have a hollow back, in which case darts (cheaper too by the way) are a better solution than just slimming the sides.

My best options have been Kent Wang with darts and bespoke. I also sent in one of my bespoke shirts to Modern Tailor to have replicated with a bunch of shirts (mixed success with. that).
