Spaced and Brass Eye are my favorite British comedies.

OK, I got the second disc of the first season The Wire from Netflix yesterday. I'm going to give it one more shot, but, if it continues to suck, I'm blaming all of you for wasting precious hours of my life.

I have Breaking Bad an inch ahead of The Wire. I prefer to call it a dead heat, but if I had to choose...Breaking Bad by a nose.

Mixed opinions on the other two. I just couldn't get into Mad Men. I tried enough times, I could appreciate how well crafted it was and all that, but it just never hooked me. Sopranos certainly the most influential of these shows (if not for Tony and co, I doubt any of the others would have even been produced) and its early seasons were some of the best TV ever broadcasted, but it dragged out a few seasons too many and kind of spoiled the experience for me.

Honorable mention for Rome. Short-lived, eventful and brilliant.

West Wing is the worst answer yet.

I loved Rome, but Game of Thrones completely blows it out of the water. And yeah, Rome was inaccurate enough to where I just consider it fantasy too. Still though, great show, I look forward to the film focusing on Pullo and Vorenus (he lived!)

I'm two seasons into Breaking Bad, and I've yet to get the episode where it becomes the best show ever.

The Wire is the correct answer. The Wire.

wow, and you still dont like it? it is a bit slow moving and takes time developing. ill give you that. but it certainly has a wide range of interesting characters and plot lines.

maybe its just not your thing. maybe you already mentioned earlier in the thread, what shows are some of your favorites?

also, if you dont like it, why have you watched 14(?) episodes? ;)

    +1

Never has a TV show been so brilliantly constructed.

Actually the Sopranos plays ok with random episodes.

    That show sucked.

Sherlock is excellent. If you havent seen it, do.

That's like saying Ford is the best car ever made.

Problem here is that you are comparing a show that has aired to one that is not complete. Even that said, I really dont know if The Wire will ever be topped. Its the Citizen Kane of TV.
