Lost's last season alone disqualifies it from being included in the discussion (I liked the finale, but that season has a ton of problems). Battlestar suffers from similar problems, except with a more troubled finale. Firefly really wasn't on long enough to be comparable, who knows what would have happened with 4 or 5 seasons. The Simpsons isn't in the same league as the rest of these shows. Maybe if it ended around season 10, but last time I watched it a couple of seasons ago it was a sad parody of its former self.

I don't understand the breaking bad. Maybe it's the bourgeois in me, but it reeks of hillbilly trash and trailerparks. I mean, I just ******* hate anything white trash with such a passion that it probably blinds me to how good the show actually is but I just cannot get into it.

Also, I wouldn't vote for this as the "best show ever", despite loving it a lot, but I'm sure some would:

Yeah so all they had was 10 seasons of greatness. I stick by my answer.

The unique thing about The Simpsons is that your 8 year old niece, your 80 year old grandmother, and everything in between could enjoy it. How many shows have been that broad while achieving perfection for 10 seasons? I can't vote in earnest yet because I have only seen a couple episodes of The Wire, but I am buying the box set this weekend.

Not only that, but the show gets funnier as you get older. A lot of these episodes came on when I was 12 or 13 and I laughed, but then I will see them again years later, in high school, college, and later, and get all kinds of jokes and references that I didn't get the first time.

I know I am a minority in this, but I always preferred South Park. Not that the older Simpson's material wasn't great and all.

I never could get into SP nor Family Guy. Too much shock for shock's sake.

SP is actually quite good at implementing social critiques into its shows. It's pretty awesome how they incorporate real life problems and current events and put their own comedic/satirical spin to accentuate the stupidity etc.

for me the wire and the sopranos are neck and neck for best show ever made. no other show has such a wide array of amazing and compelling characters. mad men and breaking bad are great as far as the quality of the story, the acting, the writing.... but they just arent in that league for me. also, breaking bad is a step above mad men imo.

+1. You can't really compare SP to Family Guy in this regard.
