I'm looking to get a new pair of shoes to go with the suit pictured below. I've got a pair of J Crew wingtips that I've realized I don't particularly like with the suit (not formal enough because of the rubber soles), but I'm not sure what direction I should go in. I'm thinking I may just want to go with a black captoe oxford, but I'm wondering what my options would be here...

Hard to tell if that suit is charcoal, or gray.

A charcoal pinstripe suit screams business, and formal, to me. I'd go with a black cap toe oxford, or a black punch cap oxford.

If it's mid gray I'd be more open to brown... but not much more. I would still lean heavily towards black with those pinstripes.

Also, from your post it's a bit unclear what shoes you do have. If you don't have a black cap toe (or punch cap), then I'd definitely go with that. It'll go with the suit and is the most basic business shoe you can get.

Allen Edmonds Park Avenue or an equivalent would be a good start.

A dark grey pinstripe suit needs black shoes. Such a business suit needs proper business shoes.

Hard to go wrong with a half brogue like this. You will wear it for years. IMO the AEs are good shoes but these are far more interesting and yet classic.

Today I'm wearing dark brown shoes with a medium gray 3-pc flannel pinstripe suit. For more formal occasions I think black looks better and is more appropriate.

I think it needs to be an oxford of one of the most conservative varieties - cap toe, punch toe, or adelaide. Black is probably best, but very dark brown will work in all but the most conservative situations, and will be more interesting IMO.
