Not necessarily anti-black just anti poor quality shoes. I suppose, like any shoe, poor quality is easy to spot but, for me, those wearing cheap black as part of a 'uniform' approach seem to think that they can slip under the radar as it won't be noticed.

Admittedly, those wearing shoes (other than black) intending to make a statement need to carry it off with quality. Often, they don't.

The adage is never truer than now - You can tell a man by his shoes and his watch!

And, if you didn't share my Grandfather, you may not know that you should never trust a man in a Blazer or a man with facial hair!

Cordovan for me, brown can stand out too much for me sometimes.

Black is seen as an easy option and a benchmark for of lack of creativity...
Black also is a very flat colour lacking depth ...
People who really care about their appearance seldom wear black shoes except in very formal occasions or when it is appropriate..

booooo...

I do agree that typically black shoes fall in two camps: (1) those that could care less and wear scuffed black shoes; or (2) those that go overboard with the kiwi parade gloss shine!

+1. Same here. Navy suit + burgundy (especially the AE MacNeil) rocks.

I just can't like burgundy. I don't know why. Something in my childhood, undoubtedly. But I like these colors, not necessarily the shoes themselves, with a navy suit. I could go lighter as well, such as the AE Soho.

I have 2 bespoke burgundy/merlot pairs of shoes in my wardrobe and i have never worn them..
Why? Burgundy is highly accepted and acceptable and a great alternative to black or brown but i don't wear them...
The truth is if i do like the idea of burgundy , i prefer black/dark brown shoes even very dark blue or grey very close to black...
We all have our preferences, thanks for that or the style forum will be a very boring place.
