Best pants with sport coats?

I like sport coats and have a pretty deep bench of options. I wear them to work consistently, occasionally mixing it up with a blazer or a suit. I used to wear khakis or chinos with them, but I’ve gotten to the point that I feel like most khakis and chinos just look bad (maybe they just look bad on me). Therefore, I pair my sport coats almost exclusively with nicer wool slacks/dress pants. I just think it is a much cleaner look, but I see more folks pairing sport coats and blazers with khakis or chinos.

What are y’all’s thoughts on this? Am I the outlier here? I think the sport coat, paired with some decent slacks and an open collar dress shirt is a nice look, while not being as formal as a suit. Strangely, I also like them with jeans for a deliberately casual look (but again, can’t stand khakis).

I think it sometimes depends where you’re from and what little niche of menswear you gravitate towards. I’m from the northeast of the USA and I wear khakis and sport coats all the time. I’ll wear them with tweed. I’ll wear them with navy blazers. I like the way they look. However if you’re not into that ivy or trad kind of look, then I could see how they aren’t your cup of tea.

Cream in summer and dark brown in autumn/winter are also good choices. I really like H&S Crispaire for trousers. Fresco lite is also a nice option. Not a fan of flannel for trousers, it wears out pretty fast.

I just recently moved from the tropics so I have little experience with flannels (and can't speak to its longevity), but despite the lovely texture, they seem to get stretched out of shape (baggy?) more easily than twills or high twist. For practicality I prefer cavalry twill trousers for the colder seasons as they require less pressing than flannels.

I'm thinking of trying some worsted or worsted/woolen mix flannels next.

I wear simple cotton chinos from Uniqlo with linen jackets or green/blue solaro wool in the summer. I wear moleskin trousers with Harris tweed in the winter.

Flannel in the winter is wonderful, you just need a few pairs on rotation, as to not wear them out so fast. Similar to good shoes.

As well as flannel and twill, I'd say that corduroy trousers are the classic pairing par excellence with sport coats.

Cream High Twist
Olive High Twist

Fall/Winter:
Grey Flannels
Cream Flannels
Brown Cords

Year-round with casual tailoring:
Beige/Olive/Cream chinos
High rise, straight leg denim in dark and light wash

For business casual wear, I pair them with high-rise cotton pants; I wear moleskine or corduroy in the fall and winter and tropical cotton in the spring and summer. I wear this with OCBDs or polo shirts and either loafers, derbies, or chelsea boots.

For job interviews and the like, I pair sport coats with high-rise grey wool trousers. I wear flannel and tropical wool, depending on the time of year. I pair this with a broadcloth shirt, necktie, and oxfords.

Cream/ecru/bone/stone/off-white all basically look the same to me with varying degrees of warmth. But I'm not great at labelling colors. I really mean a warm off-white color.

Not tan or taupe or beige which read more brown to my bad eyes.

I hear you. I wore beige/greige/khaki chinos for years, never really liking them but not understanding quite why, until i realised how different they were to cream, which look far better, particularly with a crease.
