I'm torn between Dockers and Brooks Brothers.

I'm muscular (no excess fat) and tall, hate ironing and need chinos =) Please advice. Money is no object, I just want them to be medium slim, good looking and durable.

Also, I'm looking for very comfortable casual shoes with removable orthotics. Best comfort and quality, maximum $US 500 for a pair.
Any recommendations?

Agreed. They are my non-iron chinos of choice. I have two pairs and they hold up well.

As to the comfortable casual shoes, we probably need more details as to what you're looking for. I have a pair of Heschungs with Dainite soles that are very, very comfortable. I have had them for at least five years, though, and last time I looked, Heschung had changed their whole style or something, so they may not be a good choice any more.

For casual comfortable shoes I really like driving mocs. Obviously not great if you have a lot of walking to do but they are available in a broad price-quality range and in just about every colour. Just ordered a pair of Fins in purple suede. Go great with jeans, khakis, linen strides in the summer ...

Indont really like the idea of leather dress shoes with jeans, like wingtip oxfords or bluchers. Just seems too much of a casual-formal mix up.

I hate ironing chinos also and have found that JCrew Essential Chinos are the best for evading wrinkles even though they are not non-iron pants. Of course, I have a special process to keep them from wrinkling; after I was them in warm water, I put them in the dryer on low for 20 minutes to remove excess water. I then hang them flat on one of those wooden sweater racks and when they dry, I fluff them on air cycle in the dryer. No wrinkles!! My non-iron favorite chinos are Brooks Brothers but prefer the J. Crew essential chinos.

How do you feel about spending money on non-essential goods during the Covid-19 crisis?

  • I don't want to spend money at a time of economic uncertainty, even if I could afford it.

  • I feel compelled to spend to help small businesses that are struggling.

  • I reduced my budget for non-essential goods and I'm not spending at the moment.

  • Not much has changed for me and I'm still buying stuff I can't afford.
