1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

After posting some things to the ugly buildings thread, I thought I would post what I think are nice buildings to this thread.

    Xilinhot Airport.

One thing about the World Trade Centre is the how they are viewed from an architectural standpoint. After 9/11 they've been called beautiful, inspiring, etc. And from a symbolic standpoint now; yeah, I agree. They do mean a lot, and the images are incredibly powerful.

But no offense, I always thought they were ugly things.

They were. There's a really good chapter in an otherwise crappy book that is devoted to how they represent everything that is wrong with architecture. It's worth a read.

I think the most famous U.S. buildings are the White House, Golden Gate Bridge, Statue of Liberty, and the World Trade Center,

    Would also add the pentagon.

Representing three very distinct, yet equally gorgeous styles.

    It's something like this.

    1.Pyramids
    2.Taj Mahal
    3. Great Wall of China
    4. Eiffel Tower
    5. Colosseum
    6. Parthenon
    ...

I think the most famous U.S. buildings are the White House, Golden Gate Bridge, Statue of Liberty, and the World Trade Center, but I don't know if any are among the top 10 in the world. St. Peters, the Duomo, St. Basil, the Forbidden City, Sydney Opera House, the Pantheon, and some others are in the mix.

I'd definitely count the Sydney Opera House as one of the world's most beautiful buildings. In terms of recognizability, I'd be surprised if it weren't ahead of the Colosseum and Parthenon.

This is in no way the best looking building, but it's still pretty awesome. [IMG] [IMG] Neuschwanstein castle [IMG] Versailles Palace [IMG] Angkor Wat [IMG] St. Basil's Cathedral [IMG] Palace of Westminster [IMG] Royal Palace of Brussels [IMG] Imam Mosque, Iran [IMG]

Actually yes, as far as airport buildings usually go, I thought these where quite pleasing to the eye and reflect local culture. Attachment 66694 Although the main terminal building itself is just some generic blob of glass and steel. Similar with many other airports.
