I have been in the market to buy a long sleeve polo in navy and charcoal with a spread collar or button down since I want to get something a little nicer than my Spier and Mackay ones, and so far have made somewhat of a list of brand that seem to make great polos. Just wanted to see if anybody else had other suggestions. I would love to get the Armoury x Ascot Chang Polo but $275 for a polo seems kind of excessive. Anybody have any other suggestions or should I bite the bullet and get the armoury one?

1. The Armoury X Ascot Chang
2. Anglo-Italian
3. Natalino
4. Lost Monarch (if they ever come out)
5. Kent Wang

I have always liked Ben Sherman's long sleeves. Especially the classic off-white with brown and orange collar stripes. I am not sure if it still is in stock but you should look it up!

I have BB, Land's End, John Smedley and Gran Sasso long sleeved Polo's. They are either Premium Cotton or Merino Wool, and Jersey/Interlock or fine knit. Personally I now prefer a knit. The BB and Gran Sasso both look smart, the LE's more casual. I will have to revisit my Smedley, I think it requires me losing a few pounds.

Just to stir the pot some, can someone explain the appeal of polos to me? I think they look good in certain contexts, but in all those contexts, I ask myself whether an OCBD would look better and the answer, as far as I can tell, is always yes. Can someone explain to me when a polo is preferable to an OCBD?

It lowers the formality when wearing a jacket. Easier (less sloppy) to wear untucked than some shirts.

Ok. So I guess if you think of it as a replacement for an untucked t-shirt, an untucked polo makes sense. Fine. I still don't understand the appeal with a jacket. It may technically be less formal, but (1) no one is going to say, "oh, look how much more casual his outfit is; he is wearing a polo under his jacket", and (2) I have still yet to see an instance where a polo looks better than an ocbd would.
