We should do a worse hip hop group thread. People like "Da Band", those girls that did "Supersonic", UFO (although can't front, Roxanne was hot when it was out), Newcleus, 2 Live Crew, Onyx etc etc

IMO, UTFO does not belong in a worst Hip Hop group thread.

Thing is, the best song on Murda Muzik was produced not by Havoc and the best verse was delivered not by Mobb Deep. "The Realest" - Alchemist - Kool G. Rap.

+1 on The Realest...that song is gold, Alchy at his finest with the low, rolling beat.

Alchemist's had a few good moments over the years...Stocking Cap, Home Sweet Home (sorry LOX but this is Ras' song) in particular are my favorites.

To be completely honest I'd rather listen to The Clipse than Mobb Deep on most days...the production that Pharrell/Neptunes gave just for them was a perfect fit not seen since Dre/Snoop. A shame they never really blew up beyond the internet, music mags and other diehard fans...their cocky swagger made dealing drugs sound like the coolest (but also - and this was key - most painful) thing in the world. Hell Hath No Fury is a modern day musical masterpiece of rage, nihilism and decadence.

I think Cypress belongs in that thread also.

What it is with you and Murda Muzik. Everyone knows Mobb Deep's Infamous is their best album by far, one of the best of the 90s, and everything they did after that was second rate. You sound like those Esham fans debating which of his abortion songs is the best.

No disrespct but I seriously doubt you were anywhere were Murda Muzik's impact could be ascertained. Murda Muzik was a classic anyalbum you here in cars criving around for over a year straight is a classic.

WuTang out of this list by far, but what about Outlaws or Bone Thugs? Also Cypress Hill was hot fire in the mid 90s. Tequila Sunrise and Dr Greenthumb... ah memories. Also +1 to Gravediggaz

It's down to either Run DMC or NWA. I would give the edge to NWA because they had better emcees and more complex production.

It's ridiculous to think that King of Rock and Straight Outta Compton were separated by about 2 years. Ridiculous rate of evolution in hip-hop at that time.

NWA always and forever. I had the Arabian Prince album, Brother Arab -- on cassette. It was really good. I used to hate on the east coast sound, but I've grown to appreciate it. Chuck D is still probably the best:

From a rebel it's final on black vinyl
Soul, rock and roll comin' like a rhino

NWA might be more important than, but are definitely not BETTER than Outkast.

Straight Outta Compton seems like a landmark album today in retrospect, I think because of the context of the times in which it came out...more of a timing thing. Niggaz4Life is a superior album in every aspect, and it does not even feature the 'core' NWA (Ice Cube gets slandered all over the album).

NWA's group members have had a huge influence, but as a group I would say they're far from the best.

Bone Thugs East 1999 was one of the best group rap albums ever-every single record from that album is good.
