my 4 best of the year all involved mexicans in key roles. coincidence?
#1 BABEL; written, produced, and directed by alejandro gonzález iñárritu. cinematography by rodrigo prieto.
#2 PAN'S LABRYNTH; written, produced, and directed by guillermo del toro. (from guadalajara, my hometown.)
#3 THE SCIENCE OF SLEEP; starring gael garcÃa bernal. it's about a mexican guy who travels to paris and falls in love with charlotte gainsbourg. (this was the best movie i had seen in a long time until the top two crept in at the end.)
#4 NACHO LIBRE; best comedy of 2006. it had a largley mexican cast and crew, including cinematographer xavier pÃ
