One thing I noticed was the plethora of notch lapels and guys forogoing cummerbund/vest.

Clooney looked awesome, I thought.

Noone else really stood out though I did think Javier Bardem's tux looked like a 6-button single-breasted jacket.

Of those pics, I only like Forest and Harrison. Daniel Day Lewis' tux was horrible as well.

Depp looks like he is channeling Colonel Sanders.

Of the actors pictured, I only like Whittaker and Clooney. Wish Clooney had used studs though.

For the record, I posted those other pics, not as "best dressed nominees", rather "here are what some other people are wearing".

It's hard to tell, but at first glance, I thought Clooney was sporting MOP studs, or they can be MOP buttons, I guess.

Just what I thought. Not being an expert on the kind of clothing expected at this kind of events to which I am never invited (is this what is called a "black tie" event?), Mr. Bardems jacket looks really disturbing. Actually, Mr. Bardem looks like some kind of weird preacher in that jacket.
I am not sure, but I think that among many Spanish actors there is a certain trend to dress down or, at least, not to adhere too much to "formality" rules. I do not know if this can have something to do with this look.

Scorsese looked terrific--SBPL, low-cut vest, clearly self-tied bow--though I don't know if anyone bothered to put any pictures up of him.

I thought Clooney looked awful, actually. His collar points were annoyingly close together and his bow tie was wimpy. The tux looks good, I guess. But the collar and bow tie really ruin it for me.

It's Josh Lucas, who usually look quite natty. The tie knot is riddiculous...you'd think someone would point it out to him.

He has been wearing that high-fashion piece of crap for YEARS...I think he wore it when he was up for Gangs of New York as well. I thought Javier Bardeen was the worst-dressed last night, with that high-stance four-button jacket that was WAY too tight on him-which was not helped by the fact he buttoned all the buttons.

I noticed that many of the men were sporting a shawl lapel last night. I must say I am a convert. It looks much more elegant than a peak lapel and in my opinion, a notch lapel on a tux (harrison ford and john stewart) just looks off.
