Best denim tailors in NYC that aren’t Williamsburg Garment Company or Denim Therapy

Really want to taper my current roster of jeans this year but I want to make sure that it’s done correctly - with a Caballo chain stitch sewing machine and all that. I also want to try a service that isn’t as excruciatingly far from where I live in Nassau County as Williamsburg Garment or as wallet draining as Denim Therapy but can supply an end result that is on par with either.

Can anyone help me out?

When I last met the wonderful Mr. Paul Winston of Chipps he was sharing a small retail space in the lobby of a building around 45th street with an adorable tiny little lady with a Russian name (Olga?) who was a denim doctor. We chatted for quite a bit about the nuances of denim and how obsessive some denim-heads were. Her business was to cater to these people (your people?) and she certainly gave me the impression that she knew her stuff.
I realise this is overly vague and may not be of much use cos I think Mr. Winston moved his operation out to Brooklyn but he’s an occasional viewer of this board and you may be able to contact him through the Chipps website and find out where the lovely Olga is now doing business.

Curious to know.....,which seam is used when tapering is done? If they taper from the outside seam then you’d lose the visible selvedge part when you turn up the bottom, no?
