I don't she does jackets, but April in Paris is now selling leather goods through Bergdorf under her proper name. They can take custom commissions there.

If you're willing to travel outside NYC, or send them by mail, Huntington Village Leather, on Long Island (they're about a mile from the Huntington LIRR stop, which is an hour from Penn) does excellent work for a fair price. They're very knowledgeable people and do great work. They don't have a website by the way. Very traditional place, but the owner has been working with leather since he was in his teens.

Try Superior Leather Restorers 212 889-7211, 141 Lexington Avenue, NY, NY 10016 email: [email protected]

In spite of their name, they have a range of leatherwork related capabilities including a expert leather tailor. I've had sleeves taken in at the shoulder, luggage repaired and leather garment dry cleaning done there with a high degree of satisfaction.

Good luck!

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
