What is the best, most universal type of jacket or coat for winters in Los Angeles (or any other similar climate)?

Admittedly, winters arent too rough here. I have always got by before with a light hoodie, blazer or, heaven forbid, the dreaded hoodie/blazer combo. I dont want anything too heavy but do want something stylish. Any locals input appreciated.

I'd say something light that you can easily layer or that has a removable lining. Even when it gets down to the 40s something thick like a peacoat isn't very versatile since it means you'd have a hard time wearing it during the day when it's in the 60s.

Haha, i was actually going to call you out since Ive read your posts and knew you lived here. So can you site any specific examples for me? I like peacoats but as you said, its just not very versatile. Hoodies just seem so informal.

I can wear a harrington all winter during the day but imo you need a day jacket and a night jacket. Nights get fuckin cold at times and there's no way a jacket made for the 60s temp would suffice

if I were to get an all wear jacket day/nite, it'd be a leather jacket. or maybe some kind of bomber jacket, I find those to be pretty versatile, esp if you add a sweater layer underneath at nite

my go to jacket in LA is an EG Wool Engineer's Jacket that i picked up from Drinkwater's a few years ago. i think it's just about perfect for the day to night changes in temperature that we have here during southland winters.
