Hello everybody,

I need a good pair of boots. I really like some of the Loake boots and 1-2 pairs of the Allen Edmonds, I guess the styles I like are Chelsea or Chukka. I would prefer to spend $100-200 but I'm not sure that is possible. I am basically looking for good brands that are a little below AE and Loake, etc, but still hold up well over time.

Any suggestions? I don't need them right away so I am open to waiting around for a good sell.

Thanks in advance.

there aren't any good brands below AE or Loake

find a boot you like, then find it slightly used here or on ebay

You will be hard pressed to find leather soled boots for under $200. You could get the Red Wing Gentleman's Travel for $200-220 off ebay. Going slightly used is probably your best bet. One other thought... I have no idea what the quality of these boots are (probably not great), but for $78, they look pretty good in my opinion. I give you the Ritano Wingtip Boot.

I just had a pair in Black arrive. These boots are now discontinued. I guess they did a run and sold them all out. I can tell you that they are no where near AE quality (obviously). They are cheap, rubber soled wingtip boots with no padding and will probably fall apart in a year.

That being said, they still look pretty decent. I can post some detail shots if you guys want to see.

In that range I'd pop on a pair of these Bison Desert Boots. I think these are made by Chippewa but I'm not sure.

Not sure how much longer its going but all three AE boot styles in factory seconds are on sale for $149. Just picked up a pair of bayfields, seemed like a pretty good deal.

At about that price range you can get Loake Kemptons. I own them and are great. Very versatile; neither too casual nor too formal (desert boots are a tad too informal for my taste).

I had not noticed before that Duluth Trading offered boots. Good to know that, to keep them on my radar for some time when I might need their style of thing. Back to boots from well-known makers for < US$200: there are quite a few in Pediwear's January sale. Makers include Loake, Barker, Grenson . . . there's a good selection.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
