@TheFoo did not return the shirts
My shop shortened the sleeves then took the extra fabric and covered the underside of the snaps to protect his watch from scratches..

A friend of mine said "it's your money, why go through the hassle, just be up front with her", to which I said "One, avoiding the conversation is just easier, and two, you're obviously not really a clothes guy". My friend said this after some sweaters from J Press were delivered to my FORMER office address, which he now happens to occupy.
With us it's more avoiding the conversations. Each of us has his (gay couple ... similar net worth and income) own money. That said, we've been together for about 40 years now and at some point I just gave all the finances to him. He's honest as the day is long so that's fine. We have his accounts, my accounts, and our accounts. He keeps the books so well that I get a monthly report on where I stand ... and at the end of the year I will either get an invoice for any additional I owe him ... or a check for what he owes me. One rule, NO debt purchases. All purchases are from cash on hand.

But it is much easier on the "peace and quiet" to pay $1K +/- a month than to pay a bill all at once. I do recall a time I paid all at once and got a "Damn are those shoes made from virgin Russian reindeer?!" He buys decent clothing ... but we aren't talking London bespoke prices. He's more of a Harvey & Hudson kind of guy with the occasional treat from Paul Stuart. BUT, there is his rather extensive and costly travel. Why just last night he told me he's going to Berlin next week for four days ... front cabin, of course. My response "When you go broke, the curb is that way!" He shot back, "When I'm on the curb, I won't need closet space." No really, we do get along. ;)

I bought a western shirt where the buttons appears to have cracks in them. Washed twice, no issues yet.

If these break in the future, are they easy enough to replace by a tailor?

This old thing? I've had it for years.
this was when the customer was married. no need to do this anymore. I never liked her anyway. she always gave him crap about his clothing addiction!

We always say, "it's the same bathtub". I have to actively encourage my wife to spend to balance me out, but that's just my guilty conscience working on me.

My wife used to not spend much, she just isn't that into clothes, and I did the same encouragement (totally, as you say, out of guilt). What I came to realize is that most (not all) people have their area that they go overboard on. My wife just picks (arguably) more responsible things to spend on. Although I argue that my watches have a better ROI any day of the week than her landscaping.
