Why do these threads always end up making a lot of otherwise quite sensible people look like asshats?

Because we are actually all asshats.

Dieworkwear and TheFoo going at it reminds me of defending a project in architecture school. Anyone who has seen Oren Safdie's play Private Jokes, Public Places should understand. But at 70, I'm too tired to continue in the same way. I do my best to find the amusement in it all. Sometimes that fails ... but I try. ;)

I feel like we were in our 30s when we met! Has it been so long?

Foo and I are both Asian. We argue like Tibetan monks, where each does a hand slap after making a point.

I don't skate, but would have no problem putting up art skateboards in my home. To me, the skateboards are just a different form of canvas. (I rather like Ryan McGinness's skateboards.) My issue with Basquiat skateboards and the like is that they have no trace of the hand of the artist, who of course is long deceased. My guess is that they are produced by a company with no connection to Basquiat with the blessing of (and significant royalties to) his estate. As such, they're a slightly more highbrow version of the Gustav Klimt "The Kiss" poster my college roommate bought from the college bookstore and hung on his bedroom door.

I'm telling my wife that my mid life crisis will be expressed through bespoke western shirts in multiples of 10.

You recently said something about being 5 in 1980. By that time I already had college degrees and several years of work under my belt.

I used to think I was Dorian Gray ... always young looking. Lately it's Dorian Graying.

What year was that you and Alden joined me for a brief get together in Paris? I had my H&K scarf out just the other day. And those two Charvet ties -- you found them -- are still favorites.
