Western wear had a pretty big influence on the Hippie/R&R scene in San Fracisco in the early the early 70s. I had a half dozen vintage piped and embroidered gaberdine shirts I had picked up at second hand stores fo a couple bucks. I wore them with patched boot fit Levis and roper boots. Here's a picture of Captain Trips himself in no less than a custom Nudie suit. This was taken at a 72 or 73 New Years eve Winterland show

Roni Madvhani is one the world’s foremost Patek collectors. I’ve always liked how he wears his western shirts, which he got from Rockmount many years ago. Goes to show you don’t have to be American or white to pull this off.

I mean in that picture Madvhani wore a western shirt with jeans... (though he might be wearing a black cap toe oxford I wouldn't know...)

But Goldberger looks like ****. Like always.

Yea, I don't love all his outfits, but I like the outfit in that video. I also enjoy some of his other looks, especially when he leans more into something more traditional.

I would probably lose the scarf in this. But I enjoy the Russell plaid tweed with taupe (whipcord?) trousers and brown tassel loafers. I think a denim Western shirt could work here, but I would probably choose a light blue OCBD for myself.

Wow, SC is polarising to say the least here, apparently. Personally I like the shawl cardigan and plan to get one at some point, though not in back. I'm "still" in the phase where I don't wear almost any black, after wearing nothing but black in casual wear in the past years.
What I really dislike is the visible white vest under the shirt, that is definitely something that always hurts my eyes. People in CM love to break the rules to show their mastery of them, of perhaps that they are above them, but that is one of the rules that should remain unbroken imo, unless perhaps you are wearing actual credible workwear, ie something you actually do manual labor in, not just pretend to.
Also the red bandana does look like some keychain with a pass for an event he is attending, due to the print, somehow. Maybe in solid red would have worked better.
That being said I like his analytical approach, as DWW explained, and that's the main reason for reading him, beside his ample knowledge thanks to massive exposure most mortals don't get to the bespoke scene.
When one reasons like him, you can then agree or not, but there is matter to discuss rather than gut reactions some of you presented.

uhhh... go Brown?

anyway I had to laugh at folks losing it because someone mentioned Simon is white. Frankly, it's not irrelevant to how he's been received, or to put it another way, style bloggers of other skin colors have to steel themselves for the most fucked, insane takes on them solely on the basis of their skin colors.

I also think some of you guys are ironically too afraid of looking like "iGents", while normal people have no notion of such a thing as a "#menswear" look. So imo you can totally get away with wearing some flair as long as it doesn't look *too* dated or flashy or incongruous... Like what is the problem with the scarf above? I see none.
