Bespoke tailoring in Tokyo?

Surely, in the city of craftsmen that is Tokyo, there must be an affordable bespoke tailor somewhere.

Does anyone have any suggestions to offer? I'd like to avoid using the travelling Indian tailors out of Hong Kong if at all possible. After-sales service will be a problem with the Hong Kong lot.

If you define affordable, I might be able to suggest someone. How much for a 2 piece suit?

Somewhere in the range of JPY 100,000 - 150,000, I figure.

If referring to Indian tailors based out of HK like Martin Tailor http://www.himarkmartintailors.com/ (recommended) and Noble House http://noblehouse.us/ (do not recommend), then I think you mean made-to-measure (MTM), not true bespoke.

If you want top bespoke in HK, then A-Man Hing Cheong in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, 5 Connaught Rd., Hong Kong, China Phone: 2522-3336 or Baroman (9 Queens rd central). In either case, you'll want at least 4-5 days and as many fitting as possible. Sam's Tailor in Hong Kong http://www.samstailor.com/ is for guillible gweilo tourists.

Three MTM options in Tokyo:

Azabu Tailor http://www.azabutailor.com (helps to speak Japanese, I think)

For British style -- Eikokuya http://www.eikokuya.co.jp/

And, Dormeuil - a French fashion house that uses British textiles:

http://www.dormeuil.jp/

The good thing about Dormeuil is that you can see the OTR (off-the-rack) versions which are priced 15% less. You can get the best of both worlds - made-to-measure with cool design.

This article http://www.japaninc.com/mgz_septembe...to-order-suits recommends Isetan Department Store. And, this article http://www.japaninc.com/mgz_july_2008_perfect-suit has a few more suggestions in addition to Dormeuil.

There are also national chains of MTM shops catering to the sarariman masses:

I got my suit made to measure at Isetan in Shinjuku, and it came out well. Cost is 100,000 yen.

For cheaper suits, my coworker recommended the tailor at Yuzawaya store (a fabric department store; many locations around Tokyo). I went there and saw that they have good quality fabrics for pretty cheap. But you need to speak Japanese.

オーダースーツのヨシムラ http://www.vightex.com

This is the only place on the above that does bespoke @135000yen and up.
Important thing is :bring your favourite suits.

They are actually making a bespoke 100% cashmere coat for me. They are basically
copying my old coat. On Friday, I will be there for a fitting. I hope they could
replicate my old coat close enough. Workmanship seem to be quite good, however
cutting could be a bit dodgy if I leave it to them. Must be extra fussy with the
tailor.

Kuro san,
Aso's tailor is Tailor Moriwaki 1-4-4 Kita Aoyama Minatoku.

I have no idea as to how good they are. From what I see on
TV news and etc, it is Japanese Oyaji style circa1970s.

I would love to, Fishball, but where would I get a copy of this back issue? I could ask my assistant at work to help me find the name of the place, etc. Alternatively, do you have a copy close at hand? Perhaps you could help. Thank you for the suggestion!

I will be interested to see how this works out for you. I like the starting price of the suits, but I worry that my complete inability to speak Japanese will present some problems.
