Bespoke tailoring in Berlin?

Gents,

I have been lurking in this forum for a while, and now it's time for my first post.

Here's my story: My wife and I have decided to take some time off from work to go traveling in Europe with our son.
Our first stop is Berlin. Compared to Scandinavia, Germany has fairly reasonable labour costs, which I why I have decided to have my first bespoke suit made while I am there.

We'll be staying there a full month, which should leave me time enough for 2-3 fittings etc. Do you not agree?

Having researched a bit, this name has popped up a few times: Amann. Any on you fine people ever come across this name?

Any other thoughts about bespoke tailoring in Berlin?

Personally, I have never heard of Amann. But ones of his teachers was Volkmar Arnulf, whose shop is not in Berlin, but Potsdam, which is close by a worth a few visits on it's own.
Here is the link to Arnulf's contact info: http://www.arnulf-massatelier.de/kontakt/. Unfortunatly, his site is only in german, so you'd have write him or make a call for more info.

Another Berlin tailor that I heard good thing about is Katrin Emmer, who also recently moved to Potsdam: http://www.handgefertigte-massanzuege.de/kontakt.html. Again, the Homepage is only in german.

I suggest that you make a visit to another forum, namely http://www.stilmagazin.com/forum/, which is a hangout for german style afficinados, and maybe ask your question again over there. These people are way more knowlegable about german tailors then I am.

I met him once, a friend had a jacket made there. You'll get a "typical" German suit, which means quite structured. Quality is very good, price not too high.

The most famous tailor in Berlin used to be Arnulf, now he moved from Kurfürstendamm to Potsdam.

There should be like five or six bespoke tailors in Berlin and 50 or so in Germany as a whole. Volkmar Arnulf, Helmut Kohl's tailor, is in the top, if not the very top. Like in most other European countries, bespoke tailors in Germany are a threatened species but I see no evidence that the best of them cannot make a sublime suit. As Sator and others at The Cutter and Tailor Forum have shown, bespoke tailoring in Germany has a very fine tradition. Cut and construction will differ from a typical English, French or Italian suit, and that makes it all the more interesting, IMO.

Just seen your post from January. You need to go to Purwin and Radczun. My son trained at Anderson and Sheppard on savile row and went over to Berlin a couple of years ago to be head of bespoke tailoring at Purwin and Radczun. Check it out as they say!
