Bespoke Suit Advice in Los Angeles

Hello,

I am getting married next spring and I've never owned a suit that fits me exactly right and I've decided this could be an opportunity to splurge a bit and get something bespoke. I was originally planning on going the Suitsupply route but I've seen too many mixed things now and I'd love for this to be a beautiful high quality suit and I'm just super curious and excited about the full bespoke process.

I've been looking in the Los Angeles area and I've found a few options of varying price points and I would really love some advice.

Here's what I've been looking at:

Divij Bespoke
I've seen them mentioned here many times and they seem to be well regarded and fairly affordable.

The Cutting Room Bespoke
I've only seen reviews on Google and a couple mentions here and there on Reddit but no real details. They look intriguing to me and the price seems very reasonable. They're in Santa Ana which is also a bit further from me than I was hoping for but not a dealbreaker at all. If anyone has any experiences here or sees red flags I'd love to know.

Tam Tailor in Westminster
The third in Orange County and also one I've seen some positive reviews of here.

I'm sure there are many other options and if anyone has suggestions I'm very open them.

Ideally I would be spending under $2k but that might be tough. This is all very new to me but I'm excited to learn more!

to be perfectly frank, if you are not surrounded by bespoke wearing people, nobody would notice that level of fit and if you cannot afford all your suits bespoke, I would not recommend it. I used to think exactly like you (having one great suit) but alas once you go bespoke everything else seems not to fit. This is btw. the reason I am NOT venturing into shoes bespoke :)

ps. as per your spend limit in bespoke, note that a suit needs at least 40-60 hours, up to 80 if a new customer. Add to that the LA rents and hourly rates as well as some 500 USD of British or Italian fabric, then you will notice that whoever tells you 2'000 USD or lower, is in my opinion not very serious.

That's totally fair and thank you. I was thinking about this as an entry point but I suppose I probably wouldn't be getting more bespoke suits in the foreseeable future so maybe I just like the idea of this and it isn't actually the most practical choice.
As to your second point on price I hear that and I haven't seen much at that price point anyway and assumed I'd probably have to spend a little more but I could definitely be convinced that going another route is just the better option here.

You owe it to yourself to call Peter at Tam Tailors and make the drive there. You're very fortunate to be located within a reasonable drive. The shop itself is upstairs and humble. The tailored clothing is an exceptional value IMO. He has the latest Loro Piana fabric books. Peter is a good man to deal with.

I think you’re looking at at least $5k for decent bespoke, but likely more. Why not MTM? Ralph Lauren Purple Label is a good choice, and they start at the $3k range.

Unless there’s been a drastic increase, Tam Tailor around 2k depending on your fabric for 2pc suit.

Yep exactly why I was considering Tam Tailor. I'll definitely be getting in touch with them after your recommendation. I am also fully open to MTM if there are good options. I might check out Suitsupply but I've just seen so many mixed things on here. I also saw that Redmayne is doing a trunk show in LA this spring and it looks like their MTM prices are within my budget but I don't know if they will have any availability or how they stack up.

I've been looking into this recently in the LA area also. One other bespoke tailor I'm considering is Jonathan Behr. A great resource for info on bespoke in general is @sartorialtalks.

Damn that suit looks so clean up front but the back looks worse than my RTW jackets.

It’s a curse. Truly.
