Hi All

My previous supplier of shirts (Brooks) has modified their shirts and no longer fit me well (or maybe my body has changed). Sourcing this forum for recs on a few NYC tailors that produce dress shirts.

Previously, I've tried Indochino on a superb deal, but quality was low, and even with 3 alterations, never got a good fit.

Thanks in advance!

There is, I believe, a definitive NYC tailors thread that you should check out.

I don't know your price point. But I have used CEGO for 12 years. Couldn't be happier.

I'm sure NYC has a bunch of shirt makers or traveling bespoke tailors that can do shirts. It shouldn't be hard to find a good one if you're willing to spend the money.

While I can't comment on the fit of other retailers, I do know that the fits can change from time to time. Even two shirts of the same fit, same fabric, can differ. This is largely down to the the retailer changing their manufacturers, where the tolerance percentage will change. This often results in a familiar shirt fit suddenly feeling a little tighter/ loose fitting than usual.

Carl at CEGO does good work.

I use Ascot Chang. They have an outpost in NYC, but I prefer meeting with Nelson Chin, their tailor at trunk shows. I find he's a really good fitter. They visit NYC twice a year.

There are a ton of traveling operations that visit NYC as well, such as Budd, Dege & Skinner, and Simone Abbarchi

Shirtmaven, CEGO mid-town.

Also try luxire.com, works for a lot of people.

Luxire is based in India.

I have had good results with Proper Cloth (MTM, not bespoke).

In the middle of using Luca Avitabile and looks promising.

I used Ascot Chang and wasn't impressed with the fit.

Joseph Genuardi, whose workshop is half a mile from the Hoboken PATH station, makes shirts. I haven't commissioned any from him, but I would infer from experience that he might produce a respectable garment at a price that isn't cheap, but also isn't exorbitant.

I have used "The HOP" located in Midtown NYC for the past 2 years. They use top notch shirt fabrics, provide an excellent fit and construction with very fast turnaround. This is a family business run by Luke, Raza and Vincent.

Highly recommend CEGO. You're going to get what you pay for with whatever you buy. Would try out CEGO for 2 shirts and see if you think it's worth it vs going to an outfit that sources you stuff overseas. CEGO makes it all in house.

Actually his MTM is not, but his bespoke is. Are you sure he only has a 2 shirt minimum?

It's true that some stuff is made right in the shop and some is not. But, at least last time I checked, the stuff made outside the shop was made a few miles away in Jersey, not overseas. Most of my recent orders have been made in the shop, my older ones were not. Either way, you've got real human beings who care about the finished product in an actual workshop in Manhattan. (I doubt it's worth opening up a semantic debate about mtm/bespoke in this context.)

not necessarily bespoke, but I believe Kamakura does custom/mtm shirts...they're probably closer to the BB price point than other bespoke makers.

I've recently ordered a shirt from MyTailor (visits NYC x4 per year) to see how they are. I've been very happy with the suit they made for me, so i figured i'd give them a try in some other areas
