Bespoke Jeans?

Has anyone ever had a pair of handmade jeans made? Would a gentleman's tailor be nonplussed by such a request? Would he even stock denim?

I think Despos could now pull it off. He altered some of my jeans expertly, he just had to learn how to do some of the finishing stitching for jeans, so I'd say he could probably pull it off. Isn't Japanese Denim what Kiton and top tiers use for their jeans?

See, for that price I'd rather just find a well-fitting pair of jeans. Good jeans will mold to your physique over time anyways, much like the canvas in a suit jacket.

i make my own jeans. but its hard to find good denim yardage. ive been trying to find some from japan to no avail.

Some of the Savile Row tailors and the so-called New Savile Row band of designers would do it. Richard James has made denim suits for ages, so I'm sure they'd do bespoke denim. Timothy Everest just launched a bespoke denim service. Gieves & Hawkes did bespoke jeans as well, IIRC, while classic tailor Anthony J. Hewitt is now co-habiting with Evisu and is now handling their bespoke.

If you want to move with your denim out of the jeans arena, there is a tailor in England, name of Pearse, who has a Savile Row background but in the decades since has done a lot of work for rock and roll people. Glenn O'Brien was photographed by The Sartorialist wearing a bespoke pinstriped double breasted denim suit, which O'Brien said was his favorite.

Not surprisingly, I have done the bespoke jeans thing.

Didnt really work out for me. Found some denim that looked OK and felt OK. Unfortunately it shrunk like crazy and left me with something unwearable.

Had a couple of (mildly amusing) Vietnam hiccups in the process. The tailor copied the Levis pocket design and stitched in fake red Levis tags to the seams, figuring "who on earth would want jeans made by Mr Phu of Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street when they could have Levis?"

Anyhow, the markets have crappy denim, and the shrinkage killed them for me. Gave them to my driver when I moved house.

well by that rationale you shouldnt get tailor made suits either, just canvassed RTW
